Pinot's Palette Addison Tips & Tricks For Making & Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions

Can you believe it’s almost 2020?!

It seems like just yesterday, we were celebrating the turn of the century, and ringing in the year 2000. With the change to a brand new decade, and as always, the brand new start of the year on January 1st, things always feel so fresh and new. It feels so good to have that sense of hope, innovation, and the feeling that anything is possible. Plans are made, dreams seem more attainable, and we’re ready to live by the philosophy of, ‘"Out with the old, and in with the new”.

With the new year, comes new choices… Resolutions for ourselves and our lives that (researchers say) about 60% of the US makes.

With over half of the country making promises for changes to make in the new year, sadly, only about 8% of us are successful in achieving them.

We’re here to offer a few helpful tips for making and keeping your resolutions this year. Check them out, give them a try, and see how they can work for you! We’re rooting for you to succeed this year, and make all of your resolutions, come to light!

Cheers!

— Set a Specific, Realistic Goal ——

Let’s be realistic, if you’re used to sitting on the sofa all day, eating takeout and junk food, and never drinking water, it’s going to be a pretty big deal to eat 100% healthy, drink nothing but water, and working out everyday. It’s just nothing something that you’re likely to stick with.

**The number one reason that people give up on their New Year’s resolutions is that they overachieve and try to reach HUGE goals in a short amount of time.

Each year, millions of adults resolve to lose weight or get in shape; It's actually the #1 resolution. Instead of selecting such an ambiguous goal, focus on something more concrete that you can realistically set your sights on.

Start by committing to losing 10 pounds, or running a mini-marathon. Choosing a concrete, achievable goal also gives you the opportunity to plan exactly how you're going to accomplish your goal over the course of the year.

Bonus:

Achieving even small goals can boost your self-belief

The American Psychological Association also suggests focusing on just one behavior at a time is more likely to lead to long-term success.

—— Don't Wait Until the Last Minute ——

Planning is a huge part of achieving any goal. Experts suggest that you should spend time thinking about how you will work towards a major behavior change.

If you start working toward a goal without any kind of plan in place, you might find yourself giving up whenever you face any sort of obstacle, difficulty, or resistance.

Start by writing down your goal, making a list of things you might do to achieve that goal, and noting any obstacles that might stand in your way. By knowing exactly what you want to accomplish and the difficulties you might face, you'll be more prepared to stick to your resolution and overcome any potential struggles.

Tip:

Having a detailed written plan can make it easier to stick with!

Why is this stage so critical for success? For one thing, it allows you to consider what tactics you will use when you are faced with barriers to success. When things get difficult, what strategies will you use to stay on the path toward success?

**We LOVE the idea of a ‘Vision Board’ to help you achieve your goals. Check out some tips for making a vision board that actually works, here: https://christieinge.com/9-steps-for-creating-a-vision-board-that-actually-works/

—— Avoid Repeating Past Failures ——

Another strategy for keeping your resolution is to not make the exact same resolution year after year. We realize this is going o be tricky one, as for many of us, we try the same things, year after year, but don’t stick with them When the new year comes around, we’re eager to put those exact same goals on the table as resolutions for the fresh new start of the upcoming year.

If you think you can do something, with the right mindset, you probably can… however, if you've already tried and failed then your self-belief will be low, which means starting out in the wrong mindset, consciously or not.

If you do choose to reach for the same goals you've tried for in the past, spend some time evaluating your previous results. Which strategies were the most effective? Which were the least effective? What has prevented you from keeping your resolution in past years?

*By changing your approach, you will be more likely to see real results this year.

And most importantly:

1. Remember that change is a process.

All of those unhealthy habits you're trying to change, most likely took years to develop, so how can you expect to change them in just a matter of days, weeks, or months?

It may end up taking longer than you would like to achieve your goals, but don’t let that deter you; Remember that this is not a race to the finish. Once you have made the commitment to changing a behavior, in many cases, it's something that you''ll continue to work on for the rest of your life.

2. Don’t beat yourself up.

Perfection is unattainable. Remember that minor missteps when reaching your goals are completely normal and OK. Don’t give up completely because you ate a brownie and broke your diet, or skipped the gym for a week because you were busy. Everyone has ups and downs; resolve to recover from your mistakes and get back on track.

3. Get support from friends and family.

You've probably heard this advice a million times, but tha's because "the buddy system" actually works. Having a solid support system can help you stay motivated, give you emotional support, and give you some great-feeling compliments when you accomplish goals!

Explain what your goals are to your close friends or family and ask them to help you achieve your objectives. Better yet, enlist the help of others by joining a group that shares your goal.

*One of the most-common and easy to succeed resolutions is to ‘Try New Things’.

With a painting and wine class at Pinot’s Palette Addison, you can easily make that one happen! Grab your friends and family, and come in for a painting class where you’ll be walked through a work of art, step-by-step, no matter your skill level.

*If your resolution is to “Relax More”, we can help you with that one, too.

Painting, along with other creative activities, is a scientifically-proven way to relax; Creative activities are something that you tend to get lost in; It's like meditation: very peaceful, very serene, and a kind of psychotherapy. Your right brain is at work which is non-judgmental, which allows you to forget all the worries you have for that period of time.

*Lastly, if spending more time with loved ones is high on your resolution list, as it is with many people, you can share in the experience of making art, drinking wine, and having a lot of fun together at out studio.

Our gift certificates make a wonderful gift for friends and family this holiday season. Give them out to some of the people on your list and attend a class with them! The gift of an experience is always a fantastic idea, and when you’re spending time with them during the experience, it’s even better. A parent or grandparent would really enjoy getting a gift like a painting and wine class, because then they’re able to try something new, while bonding with the ones they love most!

Holiday Fun, In & Around Addison, Texas With Friends & Family! From Pinot’s Palette Addison

The holiday season is full of so many wonderful things!

From decorating and baking, to spending time with loved ones, and partaking in all of those annual traditions, we love this special time of year!

For most of us, it’s also the time of year when we see family and friends more than usual, including some distant out-of-town guests; We’re also able to have more days with the kids while they’re out on break, with more days off from work for us, as well!
While it’s amazing to have so much time with loved ones, you might be looking for some ways to keep the younger kids busy during those 2 weeks off; You could be thinking of things to do with your college kids busy on their long break from school; And if you’re hosting some guests from out of town, you’re surely searching for ways to keep them busy and happy, too!

We’ve listed a few ideas for things to do this holiday season and hope you’ll get to try a few out, along with stopping into our studio for a class or two! We’re looking forward to seeing you! Happy Holidays!

— EXPLORE YOUR TOWN —
Just because you live here, doesn’t mean you can’t still get a thrill out of everything our community has to offer. From sites to see, to shopping, entertainment, and more, there are plenty of things to do in Addison this time of year (and all year long).

*WaterTower Theatre
One of the most widely praised regional theaters in the country, WaterTower produces five major shows each season at the Addison Conference and Theatre Centre. Productions run the gamut of genres, from dramas and comedies to classics and brand new works. Discount tickets are available for students and seniors.

*American Airlines Center
From Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars home games to UFC bouts and Miley Cyrus concerts, there is always something exciting going down at the world-class arena in Victory Park, a short drive from Addison.

*Vitruvian Park
Check out the stunning lights display for the holiday season! Sparkling Lights, Dazzling Sights: Holiday Lights Spectacular, now through Jan. 1.
Enjoy some delicious food at ‘Addison Ice House’, Shop, Sight-see, and take your dog to play at the park!

*Village on The Parkway
Whether you’re looking for dining, shopping, or entertainment, Village on the Parkway is your best bet in Addison. National retailers and restaurant chains mix with local boutiques amid fountains, gazebos, and Mediterranean-inspired architecture for a welcoming spot to spend an afternoon.

*Addison Improv
Catch some of the country’s funniest comics and up-and-coming jokesters at Addison’s premier comedy club. You can get dinner and a show right here, with a burger joint-style menu served up every show night.

*And more! There’s always something fun to do in Addison! Check out some more ideas:

We’re fortunate enough to live right outside of Dallas, and explore all that the big city as to offer. Venture out and see what all it has to offer with family, friends, and visiting guests!

— DO SOMETHING CREATIVE —
Creative activities are relaxing and fun, and force you to bring out your inner-artist!

Come in for a painting class at Pinot’s Palette! Whether you’re eager to spend time with the whole family, your 21+ college kids, your spouse, or out-of-town guests, Pinot’s Palette makes a great spot to do it!

Check out the calendar to see what AMAZING classes we’re offering this month (and throughout January), and then sign up for the ones you want to attend! There’s new artwork, of-the-canvas creations, ‘Family Days’, kids’ classes, and even some black light parties (just to name a few things, coming up)!

Our classes make such a great place to spend time with loved ones because you’ll be together in a fun and creative environment, bonding over a shared experience. Making artwork together, along with some great memories, is always a good time and with a class at out studio, you’ll leave with your handmade creation to take home and cherish forever!

*These classes are great anytime of year, but they especially come in handy during the holidays for several reasons:
-They make a fun activity to do with loved ones during holiday breaks.
-You can make some paintings (and other DIY creations) and give them out as gifts to friends and family.
-You can take advantage of our GIFT CERTIFICATES and check a bunch of names off of your list with these easy-to-buy gifts that anyone will love. The gift of an experience is always a fabulous and thoughtful idea!
Get some certificates for them so they can enjoy a painting class, and come on in with them so you can spend time together as part of their gift, as well!
— For loved ones who live out of the area but would love to attend one of our classes, we have over 150 locations across the US, so you can get them a gift certificate to use at a location near them!

*MORE creative activities to keep the little ones busy when they’re home from school:

— KEEP UP WITH TRADITIONS (or making new ones)  —

Bake, sing carols, make Christmas cards, and ride around, looking at lights! Whatever you used to do with your family growing up, or whatever your family traditions are now, be sure to add them into your schedule this season!

We LOVE the idea of making an ornament together, each year, and hanging it on the tree every year, after! This tradition is great because you’ll be spending time with loved ones as you create something together and make memories, and then you get to relive the memories of making them, every year you take them out to hang up!

*Enjoy these excellent ideas for holiday traditions for families: https://seasidesundays.com/holiday-traditions-for-families/

— CHECK OUT NEW SHOWS & MOVIES —
From the amazing new Disney+, to ‘feel good’ Hallmark movies, and some excellent holiday releases like Frozen 2 and Little Women, this is some screen time we can get behind!
There’s just something about curling up in your warm home in comfy clothes, spending time bonding over a shared show or movie with loved ones; On the other end of things, a fun night out with friends or family at the movies theaters is always fun for the holiday season!
*15 Best Christmas Movies You Can See In Theaters:
*New Christmas Movies on Netflix:
*Disney+

Ok, so we know that since the release of Disney+, your social media feeds have been filled with major hype about the new streaming service; We have to say it’s actually as great as they say it is! If you haven’t made the jump to the new channel, why not keep it in mind as a great gift to get your family (or someone special on your gift list) this Christmas?! Otherwise, sign up now and relive all of your childhood favorites with your kids! Now, that’s magical!

—GIVE BACK —

This is a time of year when we’re so thankful for all that we have, but many people out there don’t have much at all. Why not pay it forward and give back to those in need? Volunteer at shelters, make small kits to hand out to the homeless with water, snacks, gloves, and more. Drop off canned goods at food drives, pack some bags of unwanted things and donate them to shelters or the homeless in your area.

Set a good example for the kiddos and show them what it means to give back, not just this time of year, but always.

Invite friends and their families to join in and help as well… The more people who are helping out, the more people you can help.

— REMEMBER LOVED ONES —

We realize that not all holiday celebrations will be happy for everyone. This time of year is one of the worst for those of us who have suffered a loss, whether it happened just recently or years ago. Remember to count your blessings, lean on friends and family for support, and find some helpful ways to honor and remember the ones you lost to help bring you peace.

— More Stress-Free Holiday Tips —

* The weekend before Thanksgiving:

Aside from thawing your bird, this weekend should be dedicated to cleaning, groceries (don’t forget ice!), organizing, and some prep. Clean out your fridge, pull out your serving dishes, and decide which platters and bowls will carry what. If you’re lacking in serving-ware, ask your relatives to bring some. The last thing you want to do is set your green beans out in a plastic container among ornate bowls and platters.

* Use Monday and Tuesday to deal with tedious tasks like chopping vegetables, cutting bread for stuffing, and toasting nuts. Additionally, you can remove any of your made-ahead sides from the freezer so they can start to defrost. If you didn’t whip up your gravy and cranberry sauce ahead of time and freeze them, Tuesday would be a great time to get those made up. They will keep in the fridge until Thursday just fine.

* The Day before Thanksgiving:

Now is the time to make your desserts, stuffing, and any sides or casseroles you haven’t already made. You can also prepare your leafy salads and homemade dressing, but don’t combine the two until serving time.

* Set the table in the evening on Wednesday

* Thanksgiving morning (or the evening before):

Make yourself a timeline of what items you want to heat up and when, like your casseroles, sides, and of course your turkey. Cooking times will vary depending on what types of casseroles you’re baking and how much your turkey weighs, etc. While things cook and heat up, you can arrange the bar setup for cocktails, dump ice into coolers for your cold brews, and lay out any appetizers and cheese plates until your guests arrive.

— If you prefer to make everything on the day of, remember some of the above-mentioned tips, and check out these recipes for fast and easy Thanksgiving recipes: https://www.recipetineats.com/easy-thanksgiving-christmas-menu/

After the table has been cleared, the dishes washed, and a good night’s sleep, join us for a painting and wine class! Throughout the remainder of November, including Black Friday weekend, we’ve got some excellent classes coming up! Forget the long lines at the stores and crowded parking lots on the busiest shopping day of the year; Come in for a relaxing and creative day with a painting and wine class at Pinot’s Palette Addison!

Check out our calendar to see what’s coming up, as well as our Black Friday Weekend classes.

If you are shopping Black Friday through Cyber Monday and just can’t seem to find the person who has everything gift, we have the perfect gift! Gift Certificates! Available in all different denominations! One of the funnest (yes, I said funnest) gifts you can receive!

We hope to see you soon for some of the many events at out studio, and from our Pinot’s Palette Addison family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
